[printed letterhead: Hampton Normal and Agricultural Institute]
Hampton, Va., Dec, 21, 1897.
Miss Alice Longfellow,
Dear Miss Longfellow,-
Enclosed in a letter from Henry Tatiyopa, your Hampton Indian student. He is a bright, promising pupil, and is doing well in his studies. Unlike many of his Indian mates, he is very full of mischief, and has a great liking for fun, so that his teachers have to reprove him occasionally. He means to be good, however, and is a general favorite with us all.
A second letter will be sent later from Lucinda Palmer's successor, as the latter is not in school this year.
Thanking you for again providing for these young people,
I am
Sincerely yours,
M. J. Sherman.
