Rare photo (by S.L. Cassar) of the chaotic conditions on the quayside as civilians try to escape the city. The shot appears to be taken before the fire, in the Konak end of the Punta seafront, an area mostly spared the effects of the fire. The refugee problem and moving such a large number in a small space of time caused the Allies a lot of consternation. |
