Text auf der oberen Tafel Wem gehört das Wasser? Die adeligen Herren Staёl von Holstein – Eigentümer von Schloss Eulenbroich – besaßen ein „Wasserrecht“. Das heißt, sie durften eine bestimmte Menge Wasser aus der Sülz nutzen, um damit das Rad einer Mühle anzutreiben. Dieses Wasserrecht nutzte später Bürgermeister Robert Rohr. Er hatte seinen Amtssitz im Schloss und baute die erste Fabrik in Rösrath. Diese wurde 1891 mit modernster Technik ausgestattet: Eine Turbine sollte neue Maschinen mit Strom versorgen. Dafür musste nur noch das Wasser umgeleitet werden. Den neuen Wassergraben konnte später Emil Biedermann auch für das Abwasser seiner Lederfabrik nutzen. Übrigens: das Wasserrecht gibt es noch immer! Es regelt heute die Wasserzufuhr aus der Sülz in die Teiche rund um das Schloss Eulenbroich. Text auf der unteren Tafel In der Zeit, als die Mühle gebaut wurde, bestand Rösrath nur aus ein paar Bauernhöfen und der Burg. Später folgten ein Kloster, eine Kirche und eine Schule. In der Ziegelei entstanden ab ca. 1850 Dachziegel. 40 Jahre später wurde die Fabrik modernisiert. Eine Wasserturbine lieferte Strom, 40 Arbeiter wurden beschäftigt. 1908 ergänzte Emil Biedermann den neuen Industriestandort um einige Gebäude und eine Dampfmaschine. In Emil Biedermanns Lederfabrik waren bis 1962 über 100 Arbeiter beschäftigt. |
