Deutsch: Südsee-Abteilung im Ethnologischen Museum, Berlin-Dahlem; Ausleger-Segelboot (wa), Jaluit; Marshall-Inseln; Der Rumpf diese Segelbootes ist mit Muschelklingen-Querbeilen aus dem Holz des Brotfruchtbaumes gearbeitet und besteht aus einer scharfgeschnittenen Kielpartie, mehreren seitlichen Plankenstücken und Stevenaufsätzen. Die Wandungen sind asymmetrisch, d. h. auf der Auslegerseite nach außen gewölbt und auf der gegenüberliegenden Leeseite steil abfallend und gerade. Damit soll der Abdrift druch den Schwimmer entgegengewirkt werden. Die Rumpfenden sind gleich geformt. Beim Wendemanöver bringt man die Spitze des ozeanischen Lateinsegels zum anderen Bootsende und neigt den Mast in die rückwärtige Richtung.
Das hier restaurierte Segel bestand ursprünglich aus einem Geflecht von Pandanussblattstreifen. Das Boot kann ca. 12 Personen transportieren, die Reisenden halten sich auf den Plattformen auf. Drei Männer werden zum Steuern, Wenden und WAsserschöpfen benötigt. Das Boot wurde 1880 auf den Marschall-Inseln vom Häuptlich Loik erworben. |
