Português: "São Jerónimo" forma, juntamente com a "Pregação de São João Baptista", "Santo Antão e São Paulo Eremita", "Santo Antão e o Sátiro" e "Visão de Santo Antão", um conjunto designado por "série dos arcos" devido à arcaria que se rasga sobre um fundo azul e que corre a parte inferior de todas as tábuas. O "Retábulo do Mestre dos Arcos", nome pelo qual também é conhecido, não foi ainda objecto de um estudo aprofundado, com a excepção de Luís Reis-Santos que atribuíu a autoria dos quadros a Gregório Lopes, o que, contudo, não deixa de levantar alguns problemas, uma vez que estas pinturas não se enquadram plenamente no estilo do pintor. Este quadro, tal como os restantes quatro painéis que compunham o conjunto da "série dos arcos", provêm do convento de São Bento da Saúde, embora tudo indique que não seriam originários desta instituição beneditina, uma vez que apenas foi construída em 1598, ou seja, numa data posterior à feitura dos quadros.
