Summary
[edit]DescriptionRytidosperma carphoides36 plant20 (9225118375).jpg |
Native, yearlong-green, perennial, small, tufted grass to 50 cm tall; often much shorter. Leaf blades are usually inrolled, bristle-like and hairy, with tufts of hairs either side of the ligule. Flowerheads are contracted panicles to 4 cm long and with few spikelets. Flowers from spring to autumn. Usually only found in patches on drier, stony areas in the landscape; in open woodland and grassland. Native biodiversity. Of limited grazing value as it is not usually abundant in pastures and produces low amounts of low to moderate quality feed. A low growing grass that is best suited to sheep grazing. Can withstand heavy grazing and can decline if the pasture is kept tall. |
