English: Scene of the Rutland Stockade and Blockhouses, Wanganui. In the centre foreground is a white stone memorial surrounded by an iron fence. Left and right middle ground are colonial-style buildings. In the centre background is a rise with a cluster of defensive buildings. The original discription was "This photograph, taken in the early “eighties,” shows in the foreground the monument to the friendly Maoris killed in the battle with the Hauhaus on Moutoa Island, Wanganui River, in 1864." |
