| Description |
Parking-area sign along Mexico Road, Berks County, at the Ruth Zimmerman Natural Area of William Penn State Forest (formerly Valley Forge State Forest). The natural area, formerly the site of a private estate, comprises 33 acres of deciduous forest surrounded by suburban residential development. During March 2012, when I last visited, abnormal warmth had forced much of the vegetation to leaf out well ahead of schedule. On this latest visit, the vegetation was still mostly dormant. The grass was greening in some areas, and a few trees were beginning to bud, but no wildflowers were blooming. |
