Russia Then and Now Russias Famine of 1891-1892Great Relief from U. S. A., 1892 FOLLOWING authenticated reports that theagricultural districts of European Russia had suf-fered an awful failure of their crops of foodsupplies (1891), there appeared in many of thenewspapers of the United States telegraphic re-ports of an impending famine in a large portionof the Empire. As days went by, despatches, re-affirming and emphasizing these first outgivingsof the dreadful news multiplied, and the story offamine-stricken Russia was being discussed byhumanitarians all over our favoured land.
