Wow, aren't you quick?! You commented on it before I finish the description! Another ambulance photo for my ambulance fans in Ireland, Britain, Nederland Deutschland and elsewhere! I believe I was on Tooley Street rambling / browsing when a "beebooing" ambulance raced by, it was going so fast that another 1/10 of a second and I would have only caught the backend of the car, another 1/2 of a second and I would have been choking in the dust! Being on Tooley Street has some meaning to me. On 1861-06-22 (22 June), a fire ignited in one of the warehouses on Tooley Street along the south bank of the Thames, the huge fire raged on for two days and destroyed many warehouses and wharfs in the area. Fire insurance companies immediately raised premiums for businesses in the area to the outrage of local merchants. Within months, the local merchants decided to band together and launch their own insurance company to offer more reasonable premiums. They appropriately named their own insurer Commercial Union Assurance Co. In 1998, Commercial Union merged with General Accident to form CGU. In 2000, CGU took over Norwich Union to form CGNU. In 2002, CGNU decided to change its name to a rather curious Aviva. |
