The artist,in a fancy representation of foliage, has introducedseveral figures belonging to a Flemish May-gamemorris, consisting of the lady of the May, the fool, thepiper, two morris-dancers with bells and streamers, andfour other dancing characters, for which appropriatenames will not easily be found. # In the old town-hall at Munich there is a series often figures of morris-dancers, carved in wood byErasmus Schnitznar, in 1480, and described by HelenZimmern in the Art Journal. t They are in nichesin the frieze of the State Room (called the dancingroom ), and formerly consisted of twelve figures, buttwo were given by Louis I. of Bavaria to the sculptorSchwanthaler, who discovered them, and caused themto be cleaned.
