Text Appearing Before Image:
reds of years ago,I gather, there lived a lord of Hoiriis, who was aperson of revengeful temper. He had a pretty wife, and a friend with whom the pretty wife became toointimate. The husband discovering this, or perhapssuspecting it only, determined that an exampleshould be made. Indeed he bricked the lady upalive in his dining-room, and threw his friend intothe moat. A DANISH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL As the educational system of a country has un-doubtedly much to do with the formation of thenational character and its success or failure amongpeoples, I made up my mind if possible to visit one ofthe Danish elementary schools. This, as it chanced, was easy for me, as Mr. Jerndorff Jessen,a gentlemanwith whom I have been acquainted by correspondencefor many years as the translator of books that I havewritten, is skole inspektor or headmaster of the greatSkolen paa Duevej in Frederiksberg, the well-knownsuburb of Copenhagen. Accepting his kind andpressing invitation, I spent a morning in visiting thisschool, and record my impressions of it
