Summary
[edit]DescriptionRuns of homozygosity in African hunter-gatherers and agriculturalist heritage populations.png |
English: Runs of homozygosity in African hunter-gatherers and agriculturalist heritage populations. The average total length of the genome in ROH in a number of length categories is plotted.
When individual populations within continents are considered, it is possible to resolve finer-scale differences in demographic history. The sub-Saharan African populations can be divided into small hunter-gatherer and large, agriculturalist-heritage communities, which today are often urbanised. The Biaka and Mbuti pygmies and !Kung San have on average more than double the total length of ROH between 1–16 Mb compared to the Bantu, Yoruba and Mandenka. The large sub-Saharan African populations are very similar to Europe and East Asia for ROH longer than 2 Mb, but have less than one third the total length Europeans typically have in ROH in the smallest size category. The overall sub-Saharan African mean is inflated by the sampling of hunter-gatherer groups. |
