Summary
[edit]DescriptionRuins of longhouse - geograph.org.uk - 1063035.jpg |
English: Ruins of longhouse [This is one of a series of images showing the landscape encountered on a journey between Murroch Burn and the ruins of Auchenreoch, including several tributaries of the burn.]
I came across these ruins by accident, but they are indicated on the 1:25000 map. The plan is that of rectangular building or enclosure, approximately 30 metres long by 5 metres wide. I also noted what appeared to be four cross-walls, dividing the structure into areas of unequal size. This photograph shows a view along the length of the ruin, taken from just outside one of the shorter end walls; that end wall is visible in the foreground, and the remains of the building extend from there in the direction of the background hills. For a similar view taken on a better day, see 1915138, and for the main description, with a photograph encompassing the whole area of the ruin, see 1915115. The ruins of Auchenreoch Farm stand not far away. Its walls are far better preserved; see: 1029274. Previous: 1063010. Next: 1063043. |
