I knew that in the open fertile valley ofUch, through which I was riding northward, the much-injured ruins of Buddhist Stupas and monasteries weredotting the low spurs, just as at so many points of ancientUdyana along the Swat River. Soon as the road turned to the west towards theKatgala Pass which divides the Swat and Panjkoradrainage, my eyes were delighted to catch sight again ofthe picturesque ruins of ancient towers and dwellingsrising above the scrub-covered slopes on the left.
