English: Historic Stoddartsville, located in Blakeslee, Pennsylvania (Old State Rte 115), contains remnants of an abandoned milling village founded and built by John Stoddart in 1815. He was a visionary man who dreamed of monopolizing commerce along the Lehigh River in Luzerne County. His plan crumbled like this gristmill, due to various hardships, including being cheated by a man named Josiah White, and failing to understand the difficulties of navigating the river. All of this left Stoddart in financial ruin. A brutal forest fire ravaged the area in 1875, burning down most of the structures, including the gristmill pictured here. In 1950, another fire burned down the family mansion. This site was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 12, 1998. It is currently being excavated and researched by archaeology students and the owners of the property.
