Summary
[edit]DescriptionRuins of "Allerton" or Obelisk House - geograph.org.uk - 1226181.jpg |
English: Ruins of "Allerton" or Obelisk House. The ruins of "Allerton" or Obelisk House stand in the grounds of Allerton Municipal Golf Course, the photograph shows the putting green to the side. The first house was destroyed by fire as soon as it was built and its replacement, this grand classical residence was completed in 1815. Occupied by the Fletcher family for 104 years, it was bought by Liverpool Corporation in 1923 and the grounds opened as a municipal golf course, the mansion serving as a club house. It was again gutted by fire in 1944 and is now just a scorched ruin beside the present club house. |
