| Description |
English: Ruins at Tide Mills This was once a thriving community set around a tidal mill which produced 1500 sacks of flour a week. Competition from foreign flour and the arrival of the railway made the operation non-viable and the mill was closed in 1879. The mill was demolished in 1901 but the villagers continued to live here until the 1930s when their homes were condemned due to lack of mains drainage. The cottages were then destroyed in the second world war so that they wouldn't provide cover for invading forces. |
