| Description |
English: Ruined glasshouse. NOTE: although I took photographs here in order to make a permanent record of the ruins, I feel it is important to mention that this is not a safe area to explore; the floor is already pitted and may further give way, and it is covered in shards of glass, which are hidden by the leaves. The structures themselves may be unstable; overhead, large blocks of wood were dangling precariously on pieces of rusted metal.
This photo was taken from about halfway along a range of ruined glasshouses; these buildings extend for a considerable distance along the interior of the northern wall of 1602882. What was apparently the main entrance to the range was located at the left of the foreground area; it was accessed by a short flight of stone steps. It was also possible to enter the range by means of an opening through the northern wall; this opening gave access to the glasshouses from some small ancillary buildings that abutted the outer side of the wall. The ranges are iron-crested, as illustrated at 1602885. |
