Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Ruined Ironstone Mine Buildings. Dating from 1865 and viewed from just above the disused railway looking south down Rosedale, the ruins are on the site of a pair of railway workers cottages which were at the time coated in a layer of bitumen to waterproof them against the elements hence they were called locally as the "Black Houses". The actual ruins still standing are of a single storey extension used as a washhouse. The line of the railway can be seen contouring the hillside and passing beneath the remains of the iron calcining kilns. Further round can just be seen the remains of the stone kilns.
