Description

Español: Las Ruinas de la Fundición de Metales de Huanchaca, más conocidas como las Ruinas de Huanchaca (quechua: puente de las penas), es el vestigio de una antigua fundición de plata, localizada en Antofagasta, Chile.

Lo que hoy queda es simplemente parte de lo que fue la fundición de plata y corresponde a gruesas paredes de piedra andesita rojiza.

En el año de su construcción, era la refinadora más moderna de sudamérica. Contaba con una central eléctrica propia, para el suministro de las faenas y la maestranza. El alumbrado del barrio era proporcionado por una fábrica de gas, también propiedad de la compañía.

Hoy en día, las ruinas poseen cuatro sectores diferenciables: la gran masa central corresponde a lo que fueron las oficinas y maestranza de la compañía, el bloque ubicado en Avenida Argentina que corresponde a un horno de la refinadora, las escaleras ubicadas frente al horno y la Casa de Piedra (actualmente la Capilla Militar Nuestra Señora del Carmen).

Se encuentran ubicadas en el acceso norte de la población Coviefi, frente a Avenida Argentina. Se puede acceder al monumento mediante de las siguientes líneas de microbuses del TransAntofagasta: 109, 110, 111, 112 y 114. También se puede acceder al monumento mediante un camino no pavimentado, ubicado al costado del Campus Antofagasta de la Universidad Católica del Norte. Antofagasta se encuentra 1.361 km. al norte de Santiago de Chile, a 205 km. de Calama y a 564 de Copiapó. Puede llegar: En Avión Existen frecuencias diarias desde el aeropuerto nacional de Santiago de Chile. Puede consultar los horarios de salida. En Automóvil Para llegar a Antofagasta desde cualquier punto ubicado al sur, debe viajar por la Ruta 5 en sentido norte. Desde Copiapó son 564 km. y desde La Serena 898 km. Si viaja desde el norte, debe transitar por la Ruta 5 en sentido sur. Desde Calama son 205 km. y desde Iquique 493 km. En Bus Existen frecuencias diarias desde las ciudades cercanas. Hay buses que salen desde Santiago de Chile. Consulte en los respectivos Terminales Rodoviarios.
