English: The rufous-bellied niltava, a member of the Muscicapidae family, inhabits various regions across Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Thailand, and Vietnam. Thriving in subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests as well as subtropical or tropical moist montane forests, this species blends seamlessly into its natural habitats. Exhibiting the typical pattern seen in other niltavas, the male boasts vibrant hues while the female adopts a more subdued appearance. With its striking blue plumage accented by an orange belly, the male stands out, whereas the female is characterized by brown feathers with a white throat strap and a small blue crescent on the neck. Notably, the female bears resemblance to other niltavas, differing in size and featuring warmer tones on the wings and tail compared to the Fujian Niltava. Typically active in the middle and upper layers of broadleaf and mixed hill forests, the rufous-bellied niltava often interacts with other species within mixed flocks. Its distinctive series of high, piercing metallic whistles add to the allure of its presence in these forested habitats. Recently, sighting of this bird was photographed at the Buxa Tiger Reserve & National Park in West Bengal, India.
