Description
English: N°7 Rue Antonin-Mercié in Toulouse. The house of Guillaume de Jessé (late 16th century); chapel of the Gray Penitents, then chapel of St. John the Baptist (first half of the 19th century). A first house belongs to Guillaume de Jessé, a capitoul in 1592-1593, who had it from his father-in-law, the merchant François Milhau. From this time dates the portal, with its two consoles on which rests a molded cornice, and its blazon hammered at the Revolution. In 1826, the house was bought by the brotherhood of the Gray Penitents and transformed to become their chapel. It is at this time that a Gothic bas-relief of the Crucifixion, coming from the old chapel of the gray Penitents, is placed above the portal.
