Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Schematic rudstone as seen in thin section under the petrographic microscope.

Type of carbonaceous rock according to the depositional texture:

  • Alloctonous carbonates - Original components not bound at the deposition time.
  • 10% or more of components larger than sand size (> 2 mm).
  • Rock grain-supported (supported by the fraction of> 2 mm).

Legend:

  • Dotted background: micritic matrix.
  • Curved blue particles: bioclasts (indeterminate fossils, eg bivalve fragments).
  • Large clasts with arrow shape: bioclasts (eg belemnoids fossils)
  • Blue circles: oolites / ooids.
  • Black spheroids: bioclasts (pellets).
  • Other: bioclasts (eg fossils of gastropods).
Based on: Dunham (1962), Embry & Klovan (1971) and Lokier & Al Junaibi (2016) (for full references see below)

  • Esferoides negros: bioclastos (pellets).
  • Otros: bioclastos (fósiles de gasterópodos).
