A restored Kakatiya era Shiva temple

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Kondapak is about 90 kilometers northeast of Hyderabad on the way to Siddipet. It is home to several ruins, important inscriptions and two historic Hindu Shiva temples. It is not to be confused with the similarly spelled Kondapaka site that is 100 kilometers east of this village and about 45 kilometers east of Karimnagar.
  • The Rudreswara temple was in a state of ruins and neglect, but it has been largely restored in the 2010s.
  • The sanctum has a Shiva linga, and like the temple, it faces east. A large Virabhadra image is also found in the temple.
  • There is a pillared detached mandapam in front, and a gallery around the prakara (compound walls).
  • The main mandapam has a new Nandi. Another historic damaged Nandi stands outside with a Kakatiya inscription in old Telugu. It is on the four walls of the pillar below the Nandi. There are two other inscriptions found in this temple. Within about a mile of the village are two other important inscribed boulders, with large Canarese inscriptions. One to its northeast and another southwest, both on boulders somewhat in the middle of empty fields. Based on what these inscriptions state, it is likely that there were many more and larger monuments in Kondapak that have been lost to history.
