Church of St. Petka in the village of Rudare near Leskovac

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The oldest temple in the Leskovac area, the church dedicated to St. Petka, is located near the town, in the village of Rudare, whose name indicates a lively activity in the local mines. It was once a large and important monastery, built on the foundations of an early Christian basilica, which was destroyed at the time of the arrival of the Slavs in this area. Preserved legends, as well as historical documents, say that there used to be a large settlement here, which must have had a large church. This explains the unusually large dimensions of this temple built on the foundations of the old one. The people say that there was a Latin town here in ancient times and that this was the main church of that settlement.
