Royal Loo Remembrance Cup 1851 Objecttype: tafelstuk Objectnummer: BK-2017-6 Opschriften / Merken: merk, geslagen: gehalteteken sterling silver (925/1000), jaarletter Q = 1851-1852, belastingteken souvereignshead (keurkamer Londen) Omschrijving: Een tafelstuk in de vorm van een vrouwelijke valkenier te paard, met in haar linkerhand een valk en in haar rechterhand de blinddoek van de valk. Naast haar een valkeniersknecht met een raam, waarop drie geblinddoekte valken gezeten zijn. Aan de voet van het paard ligt een dode reiger. Het geheel geplaatst op een rotsachtige grond, en gevat in een zwart geschilderde houten plint. Op zowel de voor als de achterzijde het gekroonde wapen van Koning Willem III, op de voorzijde bovendien 'LOO CHALLENGE CUP 1851', op de keerzijde 'CHALLENGE CUP GIVEN BY HM THE KING OF THE NETHERLANDS TO BE WON TWO YEARS IN SUCCESSION BY THE SAME PERSON WON IN 1851 AND 1852, BY MR STIRLING CRAWFURD'S DARKIE' Vervaardiging Vervaardiger: winkelbedrijf: Hunt & Roskelledelsmid: John Samuel Hunt Plaats vervaardiging: Londen Datering: 1851 Fysieke kenmerken: zilver en gelakt hout Materiaal: zilver hout Techniek: lakken Afmetingen: h 71 cm. (met voetstuk), voetplaat: d 40 cm. g 5645 gr (Gewicht aan zilver: 176 ounce troy) Toelichting In many respects the history of the art of the goldsmith in the 19th century still has to be written. To me the developments seem to be far less local as is sometimes presumed. The model for this rather wonderful ambitious silver group was created for the Dutch king around 1849; a famous London goldsmith, John Samuel Hunt signed for its execution. Probably an important sculptor was involved in its creation. For another silver group, representing the Black Knight, the king had in 1849 a model made by the famous italian sculptor Carlo, baron Marochetti, who had fled Paris the year before.
