| Description |
English: Sign on the bus shelter on Chestnut Hill Avenue at Wiltshire Road in December 2016. When the photo was taken, this shelter served only the route 86 (Reservoir - Harvard - Sullivan) bus. When the 86 was rerouted from Union Square (Allston) to Reservoir in December 1989 and route 66 extended from Union Square to Harvard, the route 63 Reservoir - Central bus was discontinued. This displeased elderly residents of Brighton Center, who wanted a one-seat ride to Central. From December 1990 to December 1993, some midday route 64 (Oak Square - Central) trips were diverted to Brighton Center and Reservoir, replicating the former route 63. The sign on this shelter - itself more accommodation than at other stops on Chestnut Hill Avenue, since it serves a major senior housing development - dates from when that short-lived service and the 86 both ran on Chestnut Hill Avenue. An older layer, showing only the 86, also shows through. |
