Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Rotherhope Fell Mine - High Level Rotherhope (also Rodderup) Fell Mine was worked for lead from the 1700s, operations on the site ceasing in 1949. The mine was accessed by several levels during its life. The stone arched portal in this photo is the entrance to the High Level. Adjacent to the mine entrance are the ruins of a mine 'shop', a building typical of metal mines in this part of the country and often serving a multitude of purposes, from office and store to stables, smithy and miners' barracks. The moor is owned by a shooting syndicate.
