Summary

[edit]
Description

Native, warm-season, perennial, small herb. Stems are few and usually 10-20 cm tall. Leaves are oppositely arranged, oblong to ovate, hairy and 10-20 mm long. Flowerheads are short, dense spikes. Flowers (6-8 mm long) have a small upper lip and a larger lower lip of 3 fused petals; the lower lip is prominent and pink, with a white base. Flowering is from spring to autumn. Found along watercourses and roadsides, in rocky places and short grasslands, as well as the understorey of open woodlands.

Native biodiversity. Of no importance to stock grazing as it is a relatively fibrous plant that produces little bulk and is sparingly grazed by cattle.
