Summary

Description

St Fachtna's Cathedral, Rosscarbery, County Cork, Ireland

English: Monument in memory of John Evans Freke, 6th Baron Carbery (1765–1845), located at the east wall of the narthex with light from a south window. The inscription reads:

A•☧•Ω
To The Memory Of
The Right Honorable John Evans Freke, 6th: Baron Carbery;
Whose active usefulness and pious liberality are attested by this church, which was built through his excertions,
Together with the schools, which he founded and endowed on his estates.
For more than half a century, he zealously performed his public duties
As a landlord, a magistrate, and a member of the British Senate;
And in the various relations of private life, he secured the esteem of all who knew him.
Upright and exemplary, as his character appeared in the eyes of the world;
He well knew, that he could find acceptance with God.
Only through the merits of a crucified Redeemer.
He was born on the 11th of november 1765; was married on the 25th of January 1785 to
Catharine Charlotte, third daughter of Arthur Gore, 2th: Earl of Arran;
And dying at Castle-Freke on the 12th: of May 1845. Was interred in the adjoining family vault.
This monument is consecrated to his memory by his widow, in mournful remembrance of their union through a period
Of 62 years; and in the hope, that his example will animate his successors to remote generations.
The righteous shall be had in everlasting remembrance. Psalm 112.
