Summary
[edit]DescriptionRose and Crown pub and post office, Tilshead - geograph.org.uk - 1449872.jpg |
English: Rose and Crown pub and post office, Tilshead. Since the apparent demise of the old post office (still erroneously shown on the 1:25K map) the pub has taken on the function. The main reason I took this photo was as a response to a message I received from an American former serviceman in connection with this image 874193 He said:
"I was there in 1972. I was stationed in Mannheim, West Germany in the US Army. One of our soldiers had a mate that was a member of Co D, 2nd Bn (TA) The Queens Regiment. We were invited to come and train for two weeks and five of us yanks were sent over. We stayed at Westdown Camp and made it into Tilshead for a pub run (The Rose and Crown). We also drove up Devizes on the A360 and looked around and hit the pub. It was on this trip that I was introduced to scrumpy. I made lots of friends and have fond memories of the British soldiers that I met. I don't drink any longer, but I still remember the taste of the beer at the NAAFI and the aftermath of the next morning." |
