Deutsch: Ofenplatte rechts mit Abbildungen der Lucretia und der Pudicitia.
Beide Damen sind mythische Gestalten aus der Frühzeit Roms. Die sehr schöne Lucretia (links) war Gattin eines Adeligen aus der königlichen Familie und wurde vom Sohn des Königs vergewaltigt. Sie wollte danach aber nicht mehr weiterleben, damit künftig keine unehrenhafte Frau unter Berufung auf Lucretia weiterlebe und stieß sich ein Messer in das Herz. Pudicitia ist die Personifikation der Schamhaftigkeit. Dargestellt wird sie als eine sittsam in ihr Gewand gehüllte matrona der als Frau, die sich zu verschleiern im Begriff ist. Ihre Statue durfte nur von einer univira, einer nur einmal verheirateten Frau, berührt werden. Driesch VDD Nr 871 |
