Italiano: Dipinto del celebre pittore di animali. Nota: Figlio del pittore Johann Heinrich Roos, Philipp Peter Roos, conosciuto anche come Rosa da Tivoli, giunse in Italia nel 1677 e vi trascorrerà tutta la vita. Dopo l'apprendistato con Giacinto Brandi di cui sposerà la figlia Maria Isabella nel 1681, si dedicò a dipingere la campagna laziale. Trasferitosi a Tivoli, da cui il toponomastico soprannome, si specializzò in paesaggi arcadici, descrivendo in modo particolare animali. Non è stato ancora affrontato uno studio complessivo sulla sua vasta produzione, ma è indubbia la ragguardevole fortuna critica e commerciale che raggiunse, tanto che le sue opere erano collezionate in tutta Europa. E' indiscutibile la peculiarità estetica del dipinto in esame, che offre un utile metro qualitativo per distinguerlo dai prodotti della prolifica bottega, misurandosi con gli autografi conservati in Palazzo Doria Pamphili a Roma, quelli presenti al Museo dell'Hermitage, il Paul Getty Museum di Los Angeles e infine al Castello Sforzesco.
