Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Ropewalk Quay, Calenick Not much to see here now but from the turn of the eighteenth century until early in the twentieth century this was hive of industry. In addition to coal for the smelting works being discharged here, there was a ropewalk employing 30 to 40 men, a boat builder and a lime kiln. The boat builder was William Brabyn and there are several of his boats still afloat. One of the most well known is the Temptress which featured in Edward Allcard’s books Single handed passage and Temptress returns
