Description
English: Abraded fragment of Romano-British/Early Saxon buckle with oval frame and integral plate, Most of both parts missing. Only small parts of the frame's sides are extant, and animal heads are visible flanking the pin hole. The plate was probably trapezoidal, although most of the sides and all of the attachment edge are missing. Remains of iron pin in pin hole and two iron-filled rivet holes. Of three transverse grooves two are cut by the pin hole. Hawkes and Dunning (1961) Type IIIB; Marzinzik (2003) Type II.1a. >17 x >20.5mm. Late 4th - 5th century.
