Title
Roman trumpet bow brooch
Description
English: Copper alloy brooch fragment, Trumpet type. Upper half only, missing spring, pin, headloop; surface badly corroded. Plain head and upper bow have a centre angle. The mid bow mouldings consist of a large central swelling with traces of vertical ribbing on it and small ribs and convex mouldings above and below. The stub of the lower bow is triangular in section. Although the centre moulding is damaged it is clearly not an acanthus type and does extend around the bow, thus fitting into Collingwood Group Ri. Surviving length 34mm, width 13mm.
