Title |
Roman to post-medieval : Mount |
||
Description |
English: A cast copper alloy mount of Roman date. The mount is circular in plan with a raised rim and central circular perforation. Midway between the rim and the perforation is a raised circle of decoration. The resulting spaces between the rim and the midway circle and the midway circle and the perforation will presumably have been infilled with enamel although this is no longer present. On the reverse of the mount are four circular fixing prongs at parallel point around the circumference of the circle. The reverse is undecorated. A small hole has been worn through the mount to one side of the central perforation. The metal is a mid brownish-green colour and is worn. The mount is 27.8mm in diameter, 3.4mm thick and weighs 5.3g. This mount is possibly a Roman baldric phalerae periods. Ref : Appels and Laycock, p.86, fig.AA9.12. |
