Title
Roman seal box with enamel decoration
Description
English: Roman seal box; cast copper alloy seal box lid. The lid is rectangular and decorated with a ‘chequerboard’ pattern of rectangular cells, alternately filled with blue and yellow-green enamel, much of which is still present. The lid has a stem in the centre of one of its short sides. The stem is pierced and would have formed the hinge of the box. The other three sides of the lid extend downwards to form the sides of the box. Both the long sides have a cut-out notch for the string. A small amount of the base of the box is also still present, fitted into the lid, across the end furthest from the hinge. Length 24.5mm, width 15.2mm, thickness 7.2mm, weight 4.25g
