Title
Roman seal box: Seal box base
Description
English: The lower half of a copper alloy seal box, dating to the Roman period. The seal box is circular in plan and retains part of the catch and the hinge arm. There are three holes in the base of the box, a common feature albeit one of uncertain purpose. This seal box base is paralleled by Crummy's (1983:103) Type 2 seal boxes with round lids and enamelled decoration and is of probable 2nd to 3rd century AD date.
