Roman plate brooch (front, reverse)
Description
English: Enamelled and silvered cast copper-alloy plate brooch. Roman period, c. AD80-250. Mass: 6.6g; diameter: 33mm. There are three concentric ribs on the front of the incomplete disc-shaped plate, with a white metal coating visible. The ribs divide three reserved fields. Red enamel remains in the middle of the three reserved fields, and there are traces of turquoise enamel in the outer field. The reverse is flat with the remains of the spring within a double lug at the top, and the incomplete catchplate at the bottom.
