Title
Roman plate brooch
Description
English: An incomplete cast copper alloy and tinned Roman disc brooch with a truncated conical centre (Tutulus type). It is missing its spring mechanism, its pin, catchplate and has suffered circumferential losses. The brooch measures 22.7mm in length, 17.45mm wide, 10.6mm thick and weighs 4.48 grams.

The interior of the brooch rises to the central boss (giving the brooch a maximum depth of 10.6mm and a thickness, excluding the hinge and catch of 7.0mm) and is decorated near the rim with two concentric incised lines. The central boss appears to be integral and is circular (with a diameter of 9.3mm). The boss comprises a raised outer rim and central pellet.

To the reverse is a double-lug arrangement for the missing spring. One lug is damaged and there are traces of iron corrosion.
