Roman plate brooch
Description
English: Copper alloy conical disc brooch. Missing pin, one pin lug, catchplate and over half the outer part of the plate. The pin was hinged between two close set lugs. At the centre the point is recessed in a raised ring. The cone sides are concave, with a double incised line at the base. The outer rim is thickened and upturned, with three surviving small projections (originally six?). Height 9.5mm, diameter (projected) c.31mm. This is Hattatt's "tutulus" type, a Continental form.Similar to Hattatt no 539.
