Title
Roman pin
Description
English: A cast copper-alloy pin with the head of a bird of Roman date.

The head is a simple bird in profile with its head looking back over its shoulder. There is a circular perforation for its eye and a tap projecting from the back of the bird with a circular perforation.

The shaft of the pin appears to have been broken and repaired and reattached just below the head. The shaft is circular in section, with a slightly expanded conical tip.

Its original function may have been a clothing or hair pin, perhaps linked to another pin, suggested by the perforation on the head, but the break and reduction of length of the pin shaft may have reduced its function.
