Title
Roman glass bead (front, side and back views)
Description
English: A slightly incomplete blown plain annular glass bead, dating from the 1st-4th century AD (outer diameter: 20mm; thickness: 8mm; inner diameter of perforated hole: 7.5mm; weight: 4.13g).

The bead has a natural translucent green/ blue glass with numerous impurities in the material, as well as six holes in the surface which may have been/ are impurities also. A circular and straight-sided hole has been drilled into the centre of the artefact, indicating that this bead may have originally come from a necklace or bracelet. The artefact is in a slightly worn but good condition.

Similar example are illustrated in Nina Crummy's 'Colchester Archaeological Report 2: The Roman Small Finds from excavations in Colchester 1971-9'; 1973, pages 30-32, particularly ref no 553.
