Title |
Roman furniture mount |
||
Description |
English: A copper alloy mount which is probably a Roman furniture mount. It is 48.9mm long and 28.9mm in diameter. The mount is cylindrical with a bluntly pointed domed projection at one end with a raised disc round the base. Then the main cylindrical body starts, which is narrowed and waisted in the centre. On the base is another raised disc and then a circular in section projection which is baluster shaped. These mount have a variety of possible uses including furniture knobs, decorative mounts, door and box mounts. See Allason-Jones and Miket (1984, The Catalogue of Small Finds from South Shields Roman Fort) for similar examples. The mount has a glossy light green patina which is interrupted by rough patches of inactive corrosion. |
