Title
Roman finger ring with glass setting
Description
English: A fragment of a Roman copper alloy finger ring. The fragment consists of the oval-shaped bezel and two shoulders, with an oval box setting set with blue glass. The glass is oval shaped with a recess, within which is a smaller oval, also containing a recess. An imprint has been made and no pattern was found on the glass. The ring is broken off around the two shoulders, with an irregular break. The shoulders start to narrow slightly as they move away from the bezel. The stone measures 8.8mm by 7.7mm, the box setting measures 10.7mm by 9.7mm and the whole fragment measures 15.4 mm by 11.7mm. The fragment weighs 1.8g and is 5.1mm thick, including the stone. The ring is of Guiraud type 4e, dating to the 3rd-4th century AD.
