Title
Roman earring
Description
English: Roman copper alloy ear ring, consisting of an oval-sectioned (continuing to triangular-sectioned) piece of copper alloy bent into a U shape. It measures 14.4mm in length and weighs 1.16g.

The thicker, oval-section terminal measures 3x2.5mm. To the outside it is decorated (and seemingly to one side only, so it would have been the left ear) with a single transverse groove flanking the end. Beyond this are two pairs of three incised diagonals and above these a double transverse groove. This is below two diagonal grooves in an inverted V, but not joining at the centre. From this point the ear ring becomes more trinagular in section as a central rib emerges, becoming more prominent further along the ear ring. Either side is a groove, with decoration in the form of tiny diagonal grooves again on the left hand side only.

There is no decoration on the inside surface. Most of the light bluey-geen patina has been lost but is visible on the inside surface and along the grooves.
