Roman ear scoop
Description
English: A copper alloy Roman ear scoop. The small circular spoon is also circular in section. The shaft is circular in section and tapers towards the scoop. It is unusually thick, and towards the thicker end it becomes more rectangular in section. The end opposite the scoop is broken. The scoop has an uneven patina of dark greens and brown. It measures 37.1mm long, 6.3mm wide and 5.7mm thick. It dates from the Roman period of AD 43 – 410. Similar ear scoops can be seen on page 89 of “Roman Castleford” by Cool.
