Title
Roman ear ring
Description
English: A cast copper alloy penannular ring, probable ear ring, dating to the Roman period. The ear ring is crescent shaped in plan with the two sharply pointed ends, which almost meet, curving and widening away from each other. The thickest point of the ear ring is opposite the aperture. The ear ring is oval in section. No evidence of gilding survives although it is likely that the ear ring would have been gilded. The surfaces of the ear ring have an uneven dark and mid green patina. Categorised by Allason-Jones: 1989 'Ear -Rings in Roman Britain' as a Type 1 ear ring which were common from the 1st to 4th centuries.

Maximum diameter: 21.26mm. Maximum thickness: 3.22mm. Weight: 1.9g
